Evidently I am not the only one that is concerned by Presidential Candidates who had been convicted of a felony.  In April 2004 the LA times had an article naming a couple who I didn't know about HERE.  Emerald Pixie had the nearest answer that I saw.  It seems each state decides who can and cannot vote.  Some states lets felons vote even while in prison while in other states it is illegal even after parole.  One of the stipulations of running for President is that they can vote; therefore someone living in a state where it is forbidden to vote they cannot run for President.  Lyndon LaRouche and Leonard Peltier are both from California and are incarcerated there.  There was also one in 1920 who ran. It was by Socialist labor leader Eugene V. Debs, he ran 5 times, LaRouche 8 times, and Peltier I know a couple of times if not more.

No real point here, just trivia facts to look at.  When I decide it is worth my effort to vote in November and when I decide my first choice, I think I will run my own background check on him/her.  Enough of politics for now, next post will probably have nothing to do with it.  Probably back to calories, carbs, and recipes..

GOLIGHTLEY GAZETTE - Did you know...?

I think we all know our Civics enough to be able to state unquestionably that a felon can not vote or have guns.  But did you know that a convicted felon in prison for his crime can be elected to President of the United States?  I checked with University of Texas at Arlington Texas, their political science instructor and he said let me find out.  When he called me back he said he had reread the Constitution and all the Amendments and there was no where in there that said a felon couldn't hold that office.  A front man runs with the felon as his running mate (vice-president).  He is elected and his first official act is to parole the felon then resign leaving the felon as President.  I personally know only two men that have tried this...Lyndon LaRouche and Leonard Peltier but there may have been more in history.

I am interested in knowing your thoughts on the matter.

GOLIGHTLEY GAZETTE - Meja

I was wrong about the translation of Meja, well I should say Bobby was wrong.  He thought it meant "Little Girl"  Now I know for sure it means "daughter".  And my pronunciation  was correct that it is Me-hah instead of Mee-uh.  Now that we have that worked out there is still a lot of training to do.  For some reason she is shy of Bobby.  I find that very unusual because he is so gentle with her, he is small, and has a soft voice...all of which generally makes a hit with all dogs.  I'm the one she has to worry about, I am the one with diabetes and tissue paper thin skin, once again my arms look like they have seen battle.  Her teeth are little needles and when I jerk away it tears.  Also when I walk she "ham strings" me.  This not only hurts and bleeds but also throws me off balance and has nearly caused me to fall a couple of times.  I now carry a fly swatter, she must learn not to do that if she is to have a home here.

I did call the vet yesterday and his office told me that it would be around $47 for the first shots, three weeks later another $47 and three weeks after that $57 then soon after that $150 to spay her.  I am looking into discounts through several sources.  Unlike most puppies I have had no trouble house breaking her and she doesn't tear things up.  She plays with the toys and doesn't generally chew on other things.  She goes out when the other two do.  Sometimes my problem is walking and stooping to get the other two on their leads but that has nothing to do with her that wasn't a problem before.  I wish I could teach the other two to stay in the yard and not go exploring.  Yes they always come home but there are enough dogs in the neighborhood that are large enough to break their necks in a single shake and enough kids that might want to take a puppy home with them.  Very few fences can hold dogs as tiny as they are if they really want to chase a great dane or the occasional "big dog" (a horse) that is ridden down the street.  Skeeter although only 10 pounds thinks he is ten feet tall and bulletproof.  And Biscuit is going to "help" him.

The menu is going pretty good, my sugar got a little high yesterday but I was trying some new foods and although they fit the criteria of calories and carbs for some reason my body didn't process them as it should.  Oh well it is sort of like shooting a rocket to another planet...1 degree off and the rocket won't even see the planet as it passes so there must be constant tiny adjustments until it arrives at its destination.

My scales have fun with my brain and skips around all the time.  I can weigh and get off and immediately weigh again at 4 lbs different; but if I am predicting it right I have lost a bit more weight since it weighed me first thing this morning at one of its highest measurements yesterday.  Generally after I take my water pills and move around some it drops.  Yep! according to the scales I have lost 3.4 more pounds.  That makes it 30lbs. officially .

Finally this morning I have most of my routine finished.  I have checked my blood sugar, blood pressure, taken my Lasix and potassium, made my hot tea, let the dogs in and out, and will take the rest of my meds after tea.  This mornings breakfast will be 1 cup Cheerios (dry) and thinking about some applesauce.  Those two things are a little high in carbs but it is breakfast and I will have the rest of the day to work them off.

Oh one other bit of bright news...the home health that I use think they will be able to continue working with me on a slightly more limited schedule.  Katie will come only twice a week and the nurse once every two weeks.  I think I can work with that.  The head of the small company had mentioned that she might have to transfer me to another company but the nurses threw a fit.  I must be easy to get along with.  So she sharpened her pencil and spent two hours on the phone with my insurance company...probably an hour and a half on hold and being tossed back and forth to different departments...but it looks promising.

I still need to fill out all the forms for my city-built ramp. They want to know every minute of every day for the past year for me and Bobby, then they will inspect the house to make sure it comes to code which may mean I have to pave my driveway. In which case it will be better to hire a private contractor. It is the rule now that all driveways have to be fully concrete but because mine was built under a different ruling then what I have is grandfathered in. Without a doubt, Miss Betty Davis was right when she said "Getting old is not for sissies"

Have a great day, I will try to see everyone tomorrow...

GOLIGHTLEY GAZETTE - Love comes in small packages

We took the puppy to the vet today and spent a dinner and night out for two but I can rest assured she is in good health, dewormed, special puppy food and deticked.  We no sooner got back from the vets when we lost her.  We hunted the house and the neighborhood she is black and hard to see with the brown and white camoflage.  After an hour we gave up and went to eat, I ate fitfully more playing with my food than eating.  Finally I threw it all in a to go box and we came home looking in every yard.  Then we looked in all of her hidey-holes in the house and with the flashlight saw two glowing orbs in the closet.  She doesn't whine or cry so I don't know when we would have heard her but there is food all over the place and we figured that we would have heard her crunch if nothing else.

Tomorrow we are going to start people acclimation.  Obviously she has been handled before but she still doesn't answer to her name or someone calling or even gestures that say we want her to come play with us.  I hope I find her a good place soon or I fear we will be doomed to an addition to the family.  An 850 sq ft cottage flat does not have room for 3 dogs.  I would still gladly give her up to someone who could give her a good home.  In Dallas/Ft. Worth you read all the time about free puppies being claimed and used for bait dogs and I can't sanction that.

Menu was working pretty well until tonight.  I did go for a chef's salad but didn't take my own dressing and all they had was straight vinegar and oil...that didn't sound appetising to me.  I should have thought of Italian Dressing but they brought me ranch and I ate it.  Oh well if that is the worst thing I do I should survive.  My numbers are probably way out of joint but that too can be corrected tomorrow.

I am losing my home health as Medicare won't pay them unless they are my primary insurance and my own insurance company won't pay them because they are not in the network.  I feel sorry for the owner, Rosie, she has been footing my bill for almost a year now thinking that all we had to do was get the paperwork straight.  Now she knows it will never get straight and also knows I can't pay her for past care or future.  I feel like Bambi on the ice, I get my front legs up and the rear slide out from under me, then get the back legs up and the front legs fly out from under me.  I am sure, however, I am not the only one that feels that way.

I've been so busy with my own responsibilies to my health to worry about politics this year.  I have heard some pretty rough rumors about F.E.M.A. camps, new laws that say we can no longer peacefully assemble in protest if the person is "important" enough to have Secret Service Aids with them.  And I am dreading trying to get this situation for health services straight with Medicare.  Was life more simple in the "good old days" or does it only seem simple now because we survived them?  If so, someday our children or grandchildren will look back and say these were the "good old days".  Now isn't that a scary thought?
